DR. HUMPHRIES OAM

Dr David Humphries graduated in medicine from the University of NSW, with honours, in 1981 and commenced his career in Sport and Exercise Medicine in 1984. He was one of the inaugural ...group of 40 Australian doctors awarded a Fellowship in the field in 1991. In 1993, after 9 years in practice in Sydney, he moved to Hobart and opened the first specialist Sport and Exercise Medicine practice in Tasmania. He has worked extensively with Tasmanian athletes and sporting organisations since then. He has also had many other roles in the specialty, including serving as President of the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians and most recently as convenor of the International Syllabus in SEM group. He is a casual clinical lecturer in the UTAS medical school. Currently he sits on the Australian Sports Drug Medical Advisory Committee, a ministerial appointment. He is particularly interested in the role physical activity plays in the prevention and treatment of disease, the management of chronic tendon problems and the non-surgical management of osteoarthritis.

Dr Humphries was awarded an OAM for services to sports medicine in 2023.

DR. GERAGHTY

Dr Liam Geraghty is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Physicians. Combining his love of sport and health, he worked as a physiotherapist with ...sporting teams and the public for a decade. He then went on to study medicine and after graduating in 2011, he worked in the public hospital system for 5 years, gaining experience in a variety of areas including orthopaedics, paediatrics and emergency medicine. Dr Geraghty has worked with a number of elite sporting teams, including Melbourne and Richmond in the AFL, and Melbourne City in the A league. Since moving to Tasmania, he has been involved in looking after Tasmanian athletes across a variety of sporting disciplines and previously held the role of Senior Medical Officer at Cricket Tasmania. Dr Geraghty likes to keep active, and hopes to get back to playing hockey, having previously played for over 30 years. He believes in working closely with people to achieve their sporting, exercise, and health goals, in order to keep them doing what they love.

DR. BRUCKSCH-DOMANSKI

Dr Tobias Brucksch-Domanski is a senior registrar in sport and exercise medicine. Tobias has a general interest in this field and is comfortable seeing all patients including ... elite athletes, people with niche interests and those who are simply trying to increase their activity levels. Tobias studied undergraduate medicine at Monash University in Victoria and worked there gaining experience in emergency medicine, orthopaedics, general practice clinics and sports & events coverage. After moving to Brisbane for further training, Dr Brucksch-Domanski has built an experienced base of sports medicine knowledge in private practice and with team doctor roles at Queensland Firebirds Netball, Easts Rugby and Wynnum-Manly Rugby League. He has toured internationally with Australian Water Polo. Tobias enjoys working through problems with patients, focusing on sharing knowledge. He is skilled in prescribing exercise therapy and medical intervention to achieve short- or long-term goals for individuals. Tobias enjoys yoga, swimming, and Parkrun.

 

Our Support Team.

 

Our support staff Wendy, Cheryle and Shirleen are critical members of our sport and exercise medicine team. They will usually be your first point of contact with the practice, they are available on the phone from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday. They always try and deal with your queries and needs efficiently and promptly, at times they will need to check with the doctors on particular matters. They can only make you an initial appointment with one of our specialists once the doctors have received and reviewed your referral.
